Words would fail to express how thankful we are for our two weeks spent in the hospitable land of Flanders. Seppe and his wife Hilde opened wide their hearts and their home. We can just imagine our Father looking all over the earth, watching over Belgium in search of tender hearts to do His will. Our Father knew that this couple would open up their home to us, and led us to them with the help of His angels.
Since the town of Gooik is located in the center of Flanders, it was very easy for us to visit all of the main cities there, plus some surrounding towns in search of our Father’s lost ones. Many papers were handed out, many conversations took place, and we danced and played music wherever we went.
As the days went by, something beautiful began to happen that can only happen to the people of God – we started to love where we lived, because we live where we love! We befriended our neighbors, all of those camping with us on the same field, as well as the owners, and other locals who were drawn to our light of love. All of them could not deny that there was something special about us.
Seppe himself, who is a very down to earth farmer and not a believer at all, told one of us one evening, “Whenever I walk into your tent here, I feel this” (pointing at the banners of the fruit of the Spirit, “Love, joy, peace, patience…”, written both in English and Dutch). We had the opportunity to help the other neighbors that are camping on the same field with us on their farm. They were so thankful for the support, and they did not fail to express it to us by giving us plenty of produce from their garden. We were thankful we could reach out to them in love and deeds, not just by words – we believe it has made a lasting impression on them.
This last Erev Shabbat, June 30th, we had 20 guests in total, most of them locals. Some of them were believers, some not, but they all had many questions about us and the life we live. We spent a wonderful time around the campfire singing songs late into the night. The following morning, the Sabbath, another 20 or so people came to set up a large wooden tent that they use all summer long for little events. We wholeheartedly jumped in to assist them and made sure there was a hot drink and cake. Ben Chessed cooked a big paella for them. They were also very thankful for the help, because in years past they spent a lot of time mounting the structure. So we had another opportunity to reach out to this special group of people. These are all friends of Seppe and his father.
During our time in Gooik we have gone out to the cities of Brussels, Gent, Anwerpen, Hale, Brudge, Oostende, Kortrick, Aalst, Leuven, Hasselt and Ninove. All along we have been playing music and dancing on the streets, and speaking to to many from all over the earth.
